About Weed Control Fabric (Ground Cover)
Weed control fabric suppresses weeds physically: the black base blocks light so weeds cannot photosynthesise, while the permeable structure lets rain and irrigation pass and keeps the root zone drained — unlike plastic film, which suffocates roots and compacts soil.
Woven types resist traffic and suit orchard rows and storage yards; spunbond types conform better to beds and borders. Carbon black or UV absorbers slow ageing; service life depends on mass, UV package and whether a mulch layer is added on top.

Which standard applies?
There is no dedicated Chinese national standard for weed control fabric. Base-fabric indices follow geotextile standards such as GB/T 17639-2023; UV ageing follows GB/T 16422.2. Ask for test reports covering mass, width, tensile strength and retained strength after UV exposure.
Can geotextile be used instead?
Not advisable. Geotextile is designed for filtration, separation and protection and is usually light-coloured and permeable to light, so weed suppression is poor and outdoor ageing is fast. Choose weed control fabric for suppression and geotextile for filtration/separation per the design.
